At the afternoon of July 9, Experts Summit on Comprehensive Control and Development of Grand East Lake, presided at by Prof. Ouyang Kang, the president of the Institute of State Governance, HUST, was jointly held by the Institute of State Governance, HUST, Hydroelectricity and Digital Engineering College and the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the meeting room of the Innovation Institute, HUST. Experts and officials related, reserchers and some doctorial students attended the meeting, including Chang Jianbo, the head of Institute of Hydro ecology MWR& CAS, Long Hua, an engineer of Water Resources Office of Hubei Provincial Department of Water Resources, Li Nanguan, the chief engineer of Hubei Provincial Water Resources and Hydropower Planning Survey and Design Institute, Li Qingman, the deputy major of Honghu, Prof. Tao, the president of the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, with his colleagues Prof. Zhang Beiping, Prof. Wu Hongjuan, Prof. Wang zongping, Prof. Ouyang Kang, the president of the Institute of State Governance, HUST,with his colleague researchers Qi Haibin, Wang Guohua, Chen Gang, Li Zhigang, Du Zhizhang, Yang Ang, Lou Zongyuan.

Experts attending the summit had a heated and deep discussion about such matters as the overview of water resources in Wuhan, the history of development and protection of Grand East Lake, the current situation of management of ecology network of rivers and lakes in Grand East Lake areas and prospects, tasks and aims of comprehensive control and development of Grand East Lake. They thought that lake management not only is concerned with environment but also economy, society and culture. It needs a comprehensive management with the help of multi subjects and departments in the charge of an authoritative department. Lake management is not only a way to protect environment. We also needed to harness lakes with the concerns of bearing capacity of ecological system of lakes. We should fully develop and harness river and lake resources and protect ecological environment of lakes at the same time. Moreover, lake management never means managing a single lake but a comprehensive management of the water net in this area. Experts held a view that they would make concerted efforts to overcome difficulties, improve ecological environment of lakes in Wuhan and give a hand to build “Happy Hubei, Happy Wuhan”.
